They connect us with stories, moments, and characters that touch our hearts. And they do more than that…Movies point us to powerful truths about ourselves and even about God. Many churches have done At The Movies series, and we are excited to bring you this specially designed weekend experience. We would love for you to join us at Harbor Point Church for At The Movies. It’s going to be a great series and we hope that you will invite your friends and family to join you At The Movies!

For more information about AT THE MOVIES, please see our frequently asked questions below.

WHAT IS AT THE MOVIES?

At The Movies is a 5-week long summer message series taking popular movies and connecting them with Biblical truths. In each service you’ll see scenes from some of your favorite films and hear a message that connects to the teaching of the BIble. It’s a great opportunity to invite your friends and family!

WHY ARE YOU SHOWING MOVIES IN SERVICE?

You’ve probably heard the heart behind our church gathering, “In the community, for the community.” The At The Movies series is a great onramp for people who don’t know the message of the Bible to connect with God. Jesus taught through stories and parables, using observable truths to point people to the Father. Movies are modern day parables. Movies explore the issues we all confront; truth, beauty, purpose, pain, connection, and hope. These films are universally popular because they touch on universal longings and truths. It’s a great opportunity to point people to the ultimate source of truth- Jesus.

WHY ARE YOU SHOWING SECULAR FILMS?

Theologian Francis Schaeffer said, “Art is a reflection of God’s creativity, evidence that we are made in the image of God.” While we don’t endorse the entirety of the content in the films we are featuring (in their full length there may be some cursing or violence, etc.), we believe that each of these films points to a truth about the human condition and the need for Jesus. In the same way Jesus taught the people of His day by looking around to the objects and stories present in the culture (coins, sheep, widows, and wayward sons), we are looking to the stories being told in our culture and using the questions they elicit to point people to God.

WILL THERE BE ANY BIBLE TEACHING?

Yes. Each week we’ll look at a movie through a biblical lens, studying Scripture that expands and illuminates the truth at the heart of each movie’s theme.

WHAT IS OUR HOPE FOR PEOPLE?

Our hope for this series is two-fold. First, that the people of Harbor Point would have a practical, tangible way to engage the people in their lives who are spiritually curious or hungry, and invite them to a welcoming place for them to explore their questions. This is an amazing way to “love where you live.” Some highly reputable churches across the country have incorporated At The Movies into their annual series planning and have seen the impact of designing a series to welcome the community. Second, our hope is for the hungry, the hurting, the lost, and the curious; for these films that have connected with them on a heart-level would lead them to the one who is desperately seeking their heart. We are praying for people to come to know Jesus and step into a relationship with Him.

WHERE CAN I EXPERIENCE AT THE MOVIES SUMMER SERIES?

Our AT THE MOVIES summer series will be offered at Harbor Point Church campus only. AT THE MOVIES will be shown at 5 PM on Saturdays and at 8:00 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 5:00PM on Sundays. Due to copyright restrictions, At The Movies will not be available to view online.

WILL YOU HAVE REGULAR KIDS PROGRAMMING DURING AT THE MOVIES?

Yes, Kids regular weekend programming will be available throughout the At The Movies series.

WHY AREN’T YOU SHOWING THESE MESSAGES ONLINE?

Due to legal and copyright reasons, At the Movies will not be archived or streamed online.
