FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY

Guided Prayer Experience

Praying for Families Experiencing Food Insecurity

Estimated Time: 8–12 minutes
Find a quiet place. You may want to silence notifications, sit comfortably, and take a breath before beginning

Becoming Aware of God’s PresencE

Take a moment to become still.
Breathe in slowly.
Breathe out slowly.

Remember: God sees every family. Every parent. Every child.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 146:7–9 (NIV)
“7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,

8 the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
    the Lord loves the righteous.

9 The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.”

Pray: God, open my heart to care about what You care about.
Help me see people not as statistics, but as neighbors You deeply love.

Praying for Families Facing Food Insecurity

Imagine a parent wondering how to provide the next meal.
Imagine children going to bed hungry.
Imagine the stress, fear, and exhaustion families may carry.

Pray:
Lord,
You are our Provider.
We lift up families in our community who are struggling to put food on the table.

With your own words pray for:
Parents carrying financial stress
Children experiencing hunger
Families feeling shame or isolation
Those making impossible financial decisions
Ask God to provide for their daily needs, including physically, emotionally, and spiritually needs a person may carry.

Praying for Dignity and Hope

Food insecurity affects more than hunger. It impacts dignity, confidence, and hope.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:35 (NIV)
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,”

Pray: Jesus, help families know they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

With your own words pray:
That families would experience dignity when receiving help
That hope would replace discouragement
That communities would surround them with care

Praying for Those Serving and Giving

Many people become answers to prayer through acts of service and generosity.

Pray: God, strengthen volunteers, givers, and community partners serving families in need.

With your own words pray for:
Compassion that does not grow tired
Wisdom in serving well
Unity among churches and organizations
Resources to reach more families

Ask God How You Can Participate

Sometimes prayer changes circumstances.
Sometimes prayer changes us.

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)
“if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.”

Ask God:
How can I be part of caring for families?
Who can I encourage?
What can I share?
Where can I serve?

Sit quietly and listen.

Pause for one minute.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a God who provides.
We ask You to meet the needs of families experiencing food insecurity in our community and around the world.

Use our church to bring nourishment, dignity, friendship, and hope.
Make us attentive to the needs around us and willing to respond with love.

May every meal shared reflect Your generosity.
May every act of service point people toward Your care.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
